One Direction Fan Fiction is Published…
Struggling authors everywhere: you’re doing it wrong!
I’m not sure how disturbed I am by this news, but there is something very bizarre about a book, written by a schoolgirl in her early teens, about having a relationship with a real life boy band member… hitting the shelves of major bookstores.
I know we live in an age where people have no problem publishing books about characters they ripped off from other authors, but a book about the fantasies of a pre-teen? A book involving real people? I don’t know, but I feel very squicky about this!
“A One Direction fanfic got professionally published in Portugal, by a once-vanity, now royalty-paying publisher. You can find it in the biggest bookstores (the likes of FNAC, Bertrant, Wook) and it costs a measly €12.00. The summary reads:
Nina is an 18 year-old-girl who sees her dreams come true when she gets inside a plane to London. Together with her friends, she will live an adventure she’ll never forget as she meets her idol, Liam Payne…
A Google search will let you know that it’s actually a translation of Before You Leave Me Today, a 1D fanfic published on Wattpad earlier this year.”
