Fourteen-year old Lissa is snatched from her home and finds herself a slave on a trading ship traveling on a waterless ocean of nothing but grey dust. A feisty, curious and intelligent girl, her desire to explore the ship earns her the hatred of the cruel first officer, Farq.
Fascinated by the ocean of dust, Lissa becomes embroiled in its mysteries, sensing things that the crew cannot, while cryptic whispers in her head are leading her toward a destiny linked to the dust itself. Only one man aboard can help her make sense of her new talent, but can she trust him? All is not as it seems, and she must unravel the clues before it’s too late.
When a sinister plot casts her adrift on the barren ocean, her best friend is left in the hands of the treacherous crew. Everything hinges upon her courage, quick wits, and her ability to master her new talent.
Orphaned at 7, with no memory of her past or the family she lost, 17 year old Skye Martin is tired of being alone and afraid. After a hard night of partying, Skye wakes up alone in an unfamiliar hotel. All she can remember is the deep voice of her rescuer and his promise: “I am safe.”
Xander has been tasked with watching Skye from afar for the past two years, in order to keep her safe from the demons that hunt her. An easy job – until a pair of red glowing eyes reveal themselves to Skye, and Xander, in a moment of weakness, is forced to break his cover to protect her. Never good at trusting people, Skye is inexplicably drawn to Xander and the immediate bond she feels for him. However, Xander is filled with secrets and ties to her past that threaten to thrust Skye into a world she could never imagine existed…
As she begins to unravel the truth about who Xander is and the details surrounding her family, she discovers that she might just be the key to saving everything… And, most importantly, she finds that there has always been someone by her side who would never let her fall…
This Kindle cover is very Christmas-themed, but I love it! I’m already starting my Christmas shopping, because it takes so long to get things to Australia from overseas.
Welcome to Andrew High, a school for mages…
That is, until its doors are opened to the non-magical, or “normie,” population. That means no more magic allowed on school property. For Tabetha Long, whose powers are directly related to emotions, hiding her magic is difficult. When her mother is hired as the new gym teacher, and her father comes back to town with his reality television show, difficult becomes impossible.
Now her every move is being caught on video and everyone else at school wants in too. All Tabetha wants is to become invisible.
But then the mysterious and cute new guy, Eric wouldn’t be able to see her either…

There is a world where gods you’ve never heard of have wound themselves into hearts, and choice has led its history down a different path.
This is a world where France made a small, downtrodden island called England part of its vast and bloated empire.
There are people here who can cross a thousand miles with their minds. There are rarer people still who can move between continents in the blink of an eye.
These people are dangerous.
And wanted. Desperately wanted.

The Hounds of Set by Troy A. Carrington is FREE.
Young Alex Chronos always wanted his life to matter. Other than having the full attention of the school bully, he was virtually invisible. He longed for adventure, but adventure, it seemed, never happened his way. That was all about to change.
On the night of his thirteenth birthday, Alex is terrified at the sight of a cloaked figure lumbering on his doorstep. But it isn’t the stranger that should worry him. A mysterious package left by the stranger turns his unassuming world upside down. In his quest for answers, Alex finds himself an unwilling traveller through time and space. Suddenly alone in ancient Egypt, surrounded by hot desert sands, the real adventure begins; only things weren’t what he’d imagined. His only desire now is to find his way back to his own comfortable world. It seems Egypt has other plans.
I’ve been missing in action while I tried to sort my way through a mess of a week. In the end, this blog was the thing that had to suffer (that, and my reading, which has been non-existent).
Hopefully things will be back on track starting on Monday (or maybe Tuesday).
On another note, Tokyo is to host the 2020 Olympics. This was a little bit of a surprise for me, considering neighbouring Korea is hosting the 2018 Olympics – they usually share things around more than that. Though I would have liked to see the Games in Madrid, maybe they thought their economic troubles were too great at the moment.
